On the afternoon of September 8, 2017 Teacher's Day celebration of Wuhan University was held at the Humanity Hall where a group of outstanding teachers from Wuhan University People's Hospital were honored. Professor Dong Weiguo won the honorary title "Star teacher of Wuhan University" and “The 9th Outstanding Teaching Contribution Principal’s Award of WHU". Feng Youmei, Executive Vice President of WHU awarded Professor Dong in person.
Professor Dong loves teaching. During the 28 years’ teaching career, he has been assiduous in their teaching and adheres to the combination of Imparting knowledge and educating, serving as an instructor and guide to sound development of students.
As the Chief Physician of Gastroenterology Department, the second-level professor and doctoral tutor, Professor Dong insisted teaching the undergraduate students and was highly spoken of by students. As a member of General Medicine Teaching instruction Committee and Chinese Medical Doctor Association General Practitioners Branch, he actively promoted community medicine education and general medicine education in the undergraduate teaching. He led the teaching team to explore the community medicine teaching and firstly set up the compulsory course “Community Medicine" for clinical medical students. As a reformer of clinical medicine teaching, Professor Dong and his teaching team summarized the teaching experience and compiled 13 textbooks and monographs, translated 5 textbooks, co-complied 1 textbook, all published by the People's Health Publishing House.
In addition, as an explorer of medical teaching reform, Professor Dong presided over 1 teaching reform project of Chinese Medical Association, 3 teaching reform projects of Hubei Province, published 21 medical teaching research papers. The teaching reform project “Exploration and Practice of Clinical Teaching Model" led by Professor Dong’s teaching team won first-prize of Provincial Teaching Achievement in 2013 and won second-prize of National Teaching Achievement in 2014, making great contributions to the training of clinical medical talents.
