Cancer Research Published Research Results of Li Feng’s Team

On January 18, Cancer Research (IF = 9.3), the authoritative international journal of oncology research, published online the research results of Professor Li Feng's team on cervical cancer from School of Basic Medical Sciences.

This study found that HPV16 E6, a high-risk human papillomavirus, activates the hyper-enhancer of cervical cancer cells by degrading the histone demethylase KDM5C so as to promote the development of tumors. This is the first time that oncogenic virus proteins have been discovered to activate proto-oncogenes in host cells and elucidate the molecular mechanisms involved. This study not only provides a new explanation for the molecular mechanism of HR HPV E6 carcinogenesis, but also offers a potential new molecular marker for the diagnosis and prognosis of HPV-16E6-positive cervical cancer.

The research paper is entitled “E6 Protein Expressed by High-risk HPV Activates Super-enhancers of the EGFR and c-MET Oncogenes by Destabilizing the Histone Demethylase KDM5C”. PhD student Chen Xiaohua is the first author of the paper, and Li Feng is the corresponding author, as well as Wuhan University School of Basic Medical Sciences is the organization of the first author. The paper was highly praised by senior editors of Cancer Research. The research was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of major research programs and surface projects.
