The 5th International Conference on Nutrition and Growth was held in Paris, France. Song Yong, doctoral student of the 2016 from School of Health Sciences, WUSM, was invited to give an oral report at the conference and received the Obesity Research Award. Song Yong was the only student of the two winners.
Song Yong's research thesis is titled "Based on School Life Style Intervention to Study the Influence of Obese Children in China's School Age", and his supervisor is Professor He Qiqiang. The study was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
In the research, He Qiqiang led the team members to select obese children in Wuhan to perform exercise and dietary interventions,hereby affecting the behavioral habits of these obese children. After the end of the eight-month project, the cardiovascular health indicators such as blood sugar and blood pressure were significantly improved in obese children, and the anxiety state was significantly reduced. This result shows the key role of behavioral lifestyles in the prevention and control of childhood obesity and it is highly appreciated by participating experts.
It is reported that this conference is held once a year and is one of the most influential nutrition and growth conferences in the world. More than 1900 participants from 88 countries and regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Canada and China participated in the conference,with 116 oral reports and 125 poster presentations.
