March 25th-29th, Renslow Sherer, Director of the International AIDS Training Center of the University of Chicago, Co-head of the Medical Education Reform Project of Wuhan University; Emily Landon, Director of Infection Control, and Weiwei Li, Director of Student Health Program visited WUSM.
At the meeting, Yu Xiangting, Executive Vice Dean of WUSM, expressed warm welcome to Sherer and his group. Then they discussed the three-semester system, practical teaching, textbook construction, student examination, standardized training for residents, and deepening cooperation together. Yu hoped that two universities will expand cooperation in medical education, scientific research, and student exchanges, so that teachers and students can become the biggest beneficiaries of teaching reform.
During the visit, the group held seminars with the teachers and students of School of Basic Medical Sciences, First School of Clinical Medicine, and Second School of Clinical Medicine. They introduced the P2S2 course module and shared the experience including hospital infection control, antibiotic use, the latest progress of HIV, and students’ emotional counseling project. Sherer spoke highly of MUSM’s achievements in medical education reform and standardized training for residents.
Since 2008, WUSM has cooperated with University of Chicago to carry out the reform of clinical medicine teaching in the way that University of Chicago sends professors regularly to guide teaching, teacher’s training, and construction of curriculums at MUSM, which helps the latter improve its teaching quality.
