On December 31, 2021, the Party Committee of Wuhan University officially issued the document to establish Wuhan University Taikang Life Sciences Center, with Professor Song Baoliang, the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Wuhan University TaiKang Medical School, as the Director of the Center.

As a relatively independent research institution in WHU, Wuhan University Taikang Life Sciences Center will adopt the internationally advanced management and operation mechanism and set up a scientific advisory committee, which is chaired by Xiao-Fan Wang, the tenured professor of Duke University and foreign academician of CAS. Adopting modern PI (Principal Investigator) system, the center welcomes outstanding scientists from all over the world, and will set up high-level research teams, build a first-class public research platform for life sciences, focus on major frontier and interdisciplinary issues in medicine and life sciences to carry out disciplinary research, in order to continuously improve the scientific and technological innovation capability in the field of medicine and life sciences in China and develop key and core technology, thus delivering momentum for WHU to establish the first class discipline in medicine and life science.
