June 3, Robert Zimmer, President of University of Chicago visited MUSM with his group. Tang Qizhu, Vice President of WHU, Dean of MUSM met the group. Yu Baoping, Vice Dean of MUSM; Xiong Ying, Vice Dean of MUSM; heads of International Exchange Department and Institute of Science and Technology Development; teacher and student representatives also attended the meeting.
Tang Qizhu said that our school signed an agreement about medical education reform cooperation with University of Chicago in 2008. In the past 11 years, the two sides have continuously deepened the education and teaching reform. The cooperation between two universities has gradually evolved from undergraduate education to the other field including standardized training for resident doctor and specialist physician, and hospital infection scientific research, which provided good experience and practice for the reform of medical education curriculum system home and abroad. The monograph, Medical Education Reform in China: Practical Lessons from Wuhan University, was published in April 2019. Tang Qizhu hopes the two sides will further expand the communication between teachers and students and jointly contribute to the cause of human health.
The teachers and students who had participated in the medical cooperation project shared their experience. Doctor Zimmer listened carefully and said that in terms of faculty, improving curriculum design is a very difficult task, and they had completed it together. It laid a solid foundation for future cooperation.
It is reported that since 2008, over 200 teachers and students from different disciplines of University of Chicago have come to our school to conduct teaching seminars, teaching demonstrations, teaching and training activities. MUSM has sent more than 100 young and teachers to the United States for 3-6 months of teaching and training activities. The exchange programs between two universities have had fruitful results.
