Recently, four graduating undergraduates including Jiao Anqi, a 2015 preventive medicine major from the School of Health Sciences, and Hou Zhaoxun, Tan Anran, and Hao Jiayuan, global health majors from 2016, have successively received Harvard graduate admissions notices.

The School of Health Sciences aims to cultivate "highly sophisticated innovative talents and industry leaders who are in line with international standards and national needs." In recent years, with the school's international platform and advantages, 15% of graduates go to the University of Washington, Johns Hopkins University, Karolinska University in Sweden, University of London and other foreign medical schools.

International exchange platform, exploring the vast world

Under the careful guidance of two teachers, Li Hao and Li Rui, Tan Anran opened the door to explore the global health field. He successively participated in the summer exchanges between the University of Hawaii in the United States and the University of Montreal in Canada. He went to Malaysia to participate in the 50th Asia-Pacific Public Health Conference and participated in Nepal. These experiences from the collaborative research project of the WHO Institute of Kathmandu University have touched her to have more thoughts and innovative ideas on the profession, to find her favorite professional research field, and to bear fruit. During undergraduate studies, she participated in publishing 10 SCI and 1 Chinese core journal papers.

As a freshman, Hou Zhaoxun experienced a period of confusion. After learning about the college's international exchange programs, he decided to try different possibilities. Short-term exchanges at Mahidol University in Thailand, Kathmandu University in Nepal, and University of Zambia, and joining the summer research project of the University of Alberta in Canada. These rich public health exchange-learning experiences have deepened his understanding of public health and eventually found his original intention and confidence of public health.

To teach and to befriend, to learn and to research

The college implements a tutor system for undergraduates. It recruits mentors for undergraduates from the first year. The mentor guides students in all aspects of study, life, employment and other aspects, and guides students to grow.

As a freshman, Jiao Anqi has been responsible for the national innovation project of university students in the field of environmental health under the guidance of Xianghao. With the deepening of the research, she clearly recognized the severe situation of the global environment, germinated her scientific research interest, and gradually evolved into an unremitting pursuit of her passion for professionalism. During college, she ranked among the best, GPA 3.89, published 6 SCI papers, gave an oral report in English at the Fourth International Symposium for College Students, and won the title of "Top Ten Outstanding Youth" of Wuhan University. She is finally admitted to environmental health major in Harvard University.

Hou Zhaoxun's road to scientific research cannot be separated from the support and encouragement of the professors Mao Zongfu and He Qiqiang. From meeting discussions, establishing database analysis data, to writing the thesis and several rounds of revisions, until the paper is published, the guidance of the mentors is detailed. These experiences were brought together bit by bit, and he was grateful and benefited a lot. The publication of 4 SCIs during his undergraduate period is the best testimony of his efforts and strength.

Read thousands of books and travel thousands of miles to fulfill the ambitions of young people

Hao Jiayuan's two overseas experiences—Nepal exchange and Seattle's summer research project changed her life. Facing the college's numerous exchange programs, she resolutely chose to go to an underdeveloped area. Her one-month experience in Nepal gave her a deep understanding of public health from a broader perspective. Then, her summer research in Seattle gave her a valuable field experience in public health. These experiences paved her way to Harvard.

The practical experience of cooperating with the World Health Organization Institute on transnational topics is of great significance in Tan Anran's university life. Due to the needs of the project, she went to Nepal to investigate the public health status of local communities and hospitals in the field. This experience has deepened her thinking and her professionalism. In the process of communicating with experts in the public health field, she became clearer about her career plan and life goals— to contribute to our country's public health and the future global health field.
