The theme of the report was "Inspiring the Faith, Obtaining Enlightenment, and Gaining Power from the Study of Party History--The Requirements for the Eight-year Medical Education of WHU". Tang introduced the current situation, reforms and goals of eight-year medical education combined with the history of Party, WHU and WUSM. The opportunities and challenges for eight-year medical education were further mentioned. Tang noted that we should implement the decisions and deployments of the Party Central Committee and the State Council to accomplish the fundamental tasks of strengthening moral education and cultivating the young, focus on improving students' ability, keep innovating education systems and mechanisms, promote interdisciplinary integration, and accelerate high-level cultivation of interdisciplinary medical talents under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

To encourage students to become innovative physicians and scientists, Tang put forward four suggestions. First, we need to strengthen moral education and cultivate people in the process of studying party history, to better locate the direction of our future. Second, we need to enhance job competence by integrating the curriculum and further improve coordination. Third, we need to enhance confidence for innovation from the contribution to the fight against the COVID-19. Fourth, we need to seek inspiration from the interdisciplinary coordination. At the same time, Tang introduced the excellent post-doctoral interdisciplinary research projects done by eight-year graduate from WUSM and encouraged the students to set up lofty ambitions, pay attention to interdisciplinary research, and focus on innovation.

Through studying models of our party, understanding the outstanding contributions made by WHU in the fight against the pandemic, as well as the ongoing vaccine research in WHU, students were deeply encouraged and felt a strong sense of responsibility. Tang mentioned the necessary qualities to become a medical talent, namely, decent manners, standard and fluent language, logic and innovative thinking, lifelong learning habits, outstanding work performance, and healthy mental health. Tang encouraged students to work hard, make strict demands on themselves, and constantly surpass themselves so that they can become first-class talents and contribute to the prosperity of WUSM and WHU.
