On April 1st, the remote sensing technology team of WHU (including State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing and the Institute of Aerospace Science and Technology), which ranks first in world-class disciplines, signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Renmin Hospital of WHU (Hubei General Hospital) and jointly established Renmin Hospital Medical Remote Sensing Information Institute of Wuhan University, which is also the first medical remote sensing information institute in the world.

The Institute is led by three academicians from WHU. Li Deren, member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, is the honorary president. Gong Jianya, member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Institute of Aerospace Science and Technology, is the president. Chen Rui Zhi, member of Finnish Academy of Science and Letters and director of State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing, is the executive president.

It is reported that the Institute aims to implement the national innovation-driven and health China strategy, promote the integration of medicine and remote sensing information, build a platform for innovative research and transformation, accumulate interdisciplinary talents and resources, thus promote high-quality development, and improve people's health.
