On October 20th, the Party Branch of WUSM carried out a learning activity on “Etiquettes and Conducts”. Feng Youmei, Executive President of Wuhan University; all members of the offices of WUSM; and nearly 60 teachers and students from related departments participated in this activity.
Professor Li Jianrong (a famous etiquette expert in China) and his assistant Lecturer Yang Jingli from Wuhan University gave lectures. Xiong Ying, Party Branch Sectary of WUSM hosted this activity.
Professor Li emphasized the importance of “getting refined internally”. He introduced Chinese etiquettes from the aspects of theory, self-cultivation and family harmony by citing the classics. Then he presented the etiquettes in workplace from the aspects of how to work by oneself, how to work with others, how to receive guests, how to visit others, how to communicate with others, how to build one’s image and how to conduct. In the end, he summarized etiquettes as dressing orderly, speaking elegantly, conducting politely and behaving easily, saying that etiquette was so easy that everybody could be an elegant person.
Afterwards, Lecturer Yang explained the necessity of “getting refined externally”. Lecturer Yang highlighted the importance of a good professional image from the aspects of dressing, voice and the content of speaking; and introduced the taboos in professional image management and professional dressing. At last, Lecturer Yang simulated how to “stand, walk and sit” elegantly by on-the-spot teaching.
These two teachers’ humorous language and teaching plan which linked theory with practice wan much applause from the teachers and students at present. China has always been a country of etiquette from ancient time to the present, laying much emphasis on individuals’ accomplishment on civility and manner of dealing with people. Even in the modern civilized society, civility and etiquette are of very important significance. We should have high civilization accomplishment and considerate etiquette to get along with people, “getting refined internally and externally”.
