Yang Yufei, 47, is the deputy director of the teaching office of the Second Clinical School of Wuhan University and a student counselor.

From the first day of city confinement, he and Secretary Sun Xiaojuan, the general branch of the Teaching Party, took 17 “future doctors” and rushed to the hospital where the infection risk is high, and helped with the transfer and inventory of donated materials in Zhongnan Hospital.

He said that he has been a student counselor for more than 20 years, and many of the frontline medical staff are his students. He was very relieved that he could bring a group of students who would take up the position of doctors in the future and do his best to transport "field rations" in the rear to support the epidemic battle. Whether it is in the front or the rear, I just hope that these students will be safe.

He expressed his experience as follows:

My students say "being protected by others is not enough"

From the first day of Wuhan’s confinement on January 23, I signed up for the commando team in the hospital, and went wherever needed. Later, I was fixed at the donation office of Zhongnan Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University and was ready to receive donated materials.

I have a lot of work to do, and I can only learn as I go. Fortunately, I have a group of competent helpers-because of the epidemic, the school cancelled all the graduates' shifts during the winter vacation. Many future doctors became volunteers.

Over the past month, I have been responsible for accepting, uploading and inventory of the donated materials, working together with 17 master and doctoral students.

During the Spring Festival, the epidemic broke out. Citizens gathered for treatment, and many suspected cases could not be admitted to the hospital in time. They consulted everywhere for help. When I saw these patients, I felt sad, and I was worried that the students were not adequately protected. Everyone was wearing ordinary medical masks.

In desperation, we moved our work place to a three-dimensional garage near Building 4. After all, for the teacher, the safety of the students must be in the first place.

Fan Zhou, a graduate student in 2019, was interning at the hospital before the winter vacation. He was worried about having contact with pneumonia patients and stayed in self-isolation. He took the initiative to offer to help when the staff was tight.

On February 17, the comprehensive ward on the 1st to 18th floors of Building 4 of Zhongnan Hospital was urgently rebuilt to further expand the beds and treat patients with new coronavirus pneumonia. Considering that the three-dimensional garage is too close to Building 4, we changed the work place back to the clinic hall.

Liu Zhiming is my student, the sacrifice is heartbreaking

Fighting the epidemic itself is also a heavy living textbook. Especially when I saw the sacrifice of President Liu Zhiming of Wuchang Hospital, I was very sad. He is a 2009 doctoral student of Wuhan University Second Clinical School. I was deeply in pain at his decease. .

The healers’ love is boundless. They are the pillars and spiritual strength of our country and society. What we can do is to find ways to better protect them.

I am worried that student volunteers work too hard. I urge students to go back at five o’clock every day. They must be protected. These prospective doctors will be on the front line in the future, and they are the reserve forces for future medical and scientific research. Now, they are also undergoing training on the silent battlefield. I believe that they will become the best clinicians in the future.

Every day, I eat and work with the students and can't count how many calls I receive. I received a lot of donations in all directions. I was afraid to miss the call. My phone set up call forwarding with the numbers of two colleagues. When Jiang Weijun, the person in charge of receiving donated supplies from the hospital, was busy on the phone, the call would forward to me, and if my line were busy, the call would connect to teacher Dan Dan.

Registration and storage, checking, issuing receipt certificate, classifying the materials as soon as possible, and transferring them to the relevant departments of the hospital ... Some materials must be put into the medical front line immediately, and some materials below the medical protection level, are used for logistics support.

During this month, I arrived at eight in the morning and returned home over eight in the evening, receiving an average of twenty trucks per day. No matter how late, as soon as the goods arrive, I will arrive as soon as possible. In the early morning of February 17, a Tianjin driver drove a truck from Xiamen, Fujian, and delivered disinfectant water to the hospital. He slept in a military coat on the truck at night, and found the truck blocked by another vehicle and I came to coordinate the vehicle and watch him leave.

In addition to thanks, we say sorry

When the donated materials arrive, not only must they be fully registered, but a clear proof of receipt must be given to the donors after receiving them. However, sometimes because we are too busy to report back timely, and caused some misunderstanding. As many donations are handled by middlemen, it is important to give proof to the original donators. What I can do is to express gratitude to them and strive to hurry up, so that the donation is not discounted, and medical supplies can be delivered to the front-line comrades faster.

One day at noon, I was so tired that I fell asleep on the donated materials. The students also took a picture of me and sent it to the teacher and student group. The students left messages to remind me of my personal safety. Actually, compared with the front-line medical staff, my tiredness is nothing. During this month, the enthusiastic doctors and nurses, the food truck driver, and the charity phone in the snow, the enthusiasm of the future doctors made me feel that the people around me are fighting hard, fighting against the clock, and consolidating strength.

On January 30, someone sent us a big cake, and everyone was very excited during lunch. That day, I do n’t remember who took the lead. Everyone sat around in a circle and sang the national anthem. We cheered on each other and firmly believed that this epidemic war would prevail. I also cheer up with the students: self-reliance and fortitude, truth seeking, and innovation. Together we save Wuhan!

Recently I saw the news that on February 19th, with the additional 2,000 beds, plus the takeover of the "1 + 3" model of Wuhan Seventh Hospital, Wuhan Living Room Square Cabin Hospital, and Wuhan Leishenshan Hospital, the number of hospital beds reached more than 5,400, making Zhongnan Hospital the largest designated new pneumonia hospital in Wuhan. It is the duty and the honor to be able to join the students in the front line to protect the hospital's scarce supplies at this time. Seeing these vibrant new forces, I believe the new generation of doctors will be even stronger in the future.
