    Epidemic Battle Express: Wuhan University held a teleconference with McGill University to share the anti-coronavirus experience

    On the evening of April 21st, an online video conference between Wuhan University and McGill University was successfully held to share the experience in hospital management, securing medical supplies and supporting scientific research during the outbreak of COVID-19.

    Leadership and scholars from McGill University joined the conference, including Dr. Timothy Evans, inaugural director and associate dean of the School of Population and Global Health and associate vice-principal (Global Policy and Innovation), Dr. Don Sheppard, chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Marcel Behr, director of the McGill International Tuberculosis (TB) Centre and associate leader of the Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program at the RI-MUHC, Dr. Bergman Howard, assistant dean of International Affairs of Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Richard Menzies, assistant director of the McGill International TB Center, and Dr. Matthew Cheng, assistant professor to the Division of Infectious Diseases. The representative leaders from Wuhan University include Prof. Tang Qizhu, vice president of WHU and Prof. Yu Baoping, vice dean of School of Medicine.

     

    At the teleconference, Prof. Tang Qizhu demonstrated the great work conducted by Wuhan University in many aspects such as clinical care and scientific research by making full use of interdisciplinary advantages and the resources from its affiliated hospitals. He also expected that the two universities would work together with regard to the researches about COVID-19.

    Dr. Timothy Evans said that at present Montreal is facing great challenges in the prevention and control of COVID-19 in nursing homes and communities, as well as the coronavirus testing.

    Chinese experts shared experience and exchanged ideas over the hospital management, medical supplies and scientific supports during the outbreak of COVID-19. They were Prof. Zhao Yan, director of Emergency Center and vice dean of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, Prof. Li Zhiqiang, chief physician of Neurosurgery and vice dean of Zhongnan Hospital, Prof. Hou Wei, vice dean of School of Basic Medical Sciences of WHU, Prof. Yu Xuejie, dean of School of Health Sciences of WHU, Prof. Pan Zhenyu, chief physician of the Department of Trauma and Micro-orthopedics and head to the Division of Medical Affairs in Zhongnan Hospital, Prof. Xiong Yong, head of the Department of Infectious Disease of Zhongnan Hospital, and Prof. Fan Jingyi, chief physician of Pediatrics and head of International Exchange Office of Zhongnan Hospital. The teleconference participants also included four Ph.D students who are currently exchanged at McGill University for scientific researches.

    During the video conference, experts of Wuhan university explained in details to the questions raised by the staff of McGill University, such as “how to ensure abundant supply of critical medical materials”, “how to arrange people who receive coronavirus testing” and “how to manage pandemic information well”...

    It is reported that since 2018 Wuhan university and McGill University has established partnership in the field of medicine, including faculty training, in-patient medical training, undergraduate summer schooling, doctoral cultivation, scientific research and other aspects.
