Presently, public health security brings a common challenge to all human beings and requires the international cooperation. Since mankind become a community with shared future, the epidemic battle is related to the safety of people of all countries, so that the cooperation through united efforts is the most powerful weapon. On June 3, Wuhan University held a teleconference with the University of Chicago to share the hospital experience of coronavirus infection prevention and control. Ten foreign experts attended the online meeting, including Prof. Renslow Sherer, from Infectious Diseases department, Prof. Emily Landon, who is an expert of epidemiology and director of Infection Control department, and Prof. Jon Lio. Experts from Wuhan University are Prof. Yang Jiong, chief physician of the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine of Zhongnan Hospital, Professor Shen Bo, chief physician of the Department of Cardiology and head of Medical Department of Renmin Hospital, and Associate Professor Fan Jingyi, chief physician and director of International Medical Education, Exchange and Cooperation Office of Zhongnan Hospital.

During the meeting, Prof. Yang Jiong introduced the effective measures for the prevention and control of COVID-19 infection in Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. He pointed out that doctors in respiratory department should promptly remind the other doctors of different departments to have careful medical protections, and help to improve prevention and control of COVID-19 in the hospital.

Prof. Shen Bo made a presentation with the theme of adjusting management strategies according to the situation of coronavirus outbreak, illustrating how Renmin Hospital took different measures during the three stages of COVID-19 development. He specifically introduced some measures such as “treating patients in different ward sections”, “making hierarchical diagnosis of different kinds”, “dual-triage and double-buffering”, “three medical divisions and triple protections”, “upgrading the diagnosis and treatment model”, and “ensuring the medical quality and efficiency”. Owing to these effective measures, the medical needs in different periods could be satisfied, while nosocomial infections were greatly prevented.

Prof. Emily Landon expressed sincere gratitude to the faculty of Wuhan University for sharing their valuable experience of fighting against COVID-19. Learning from the precious experience, the University of Chicago and its hospitals will do better in the hospital prevention and control of coronavirus and the treatment of patients.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, UC experts have no access to visit our university for lectures and exchanges as planned. At present, the two schools have kept close communications via different internet tools and planned to initiate online courses. It’s the second time for WHU and UC to hold the video conference for discussing the experience of combating the new coronavirus pandemic.
